Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday won the Montana primary, the final state to vote in the longest, most expensive US presidential nominating campaign in history, US media said.

Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday won the Montana primary, the final state to vote in the longest, most expensive US presidential nominating campaign in history, US media said.

Obama, who earlier in the evening claimed the party's nomination to run in the November elections, defeated his rival Hillary Clinton in the state, CNN, Fox and MSNBC news channels all predicted.

Clinton got a consolation prize however earlier taking the primary in South Dakota, according to the US networks.
