world Updated: Sep 14, 2009 13:53 IST
Thabet bin Laden

Thabet bin Laden, one of the 54 brothers of the world's most wanted terrorist Osama bin Laden has died.

In a full-page announcement in Al-Riyadh newspaper on Sunday, the family of Osama bin Laden announced the death
of Thabet bin Laden, without disclosing any further details.

However, there has been no confirmation of his death from the authorities. Local media reports said the funeral of
Thabet bin Laden, was held in Makkah on Sunday afternoon.

Thabet bin Laden was one of the 54 sons of late construction magnate Mohammed bin Laden, a poor Yemeni immigrant who started the family contracting business in the 1930s that grew into a multimillion dollar construction empire.

The bin Laden family severed links with Osama bin Laden in 1994, when Saudi Arabia stripped him of his citizenship
after he sought the overthrow of the royal family.
