Pakistan will get $2 billion in foreign military aid from the US for its counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency activities over the next five years starting 2012, subject to the US Congress’s approval.

“The United States has no stronger partner when it comes to counterterrorism efforts against the extremists who threaten us both than Pakistan,” said secretary of state Hillary Clinton announcing the assistance.

The announcement came on the concluding day of the third round of strategic dialogue between the US and Pakistan, led by the respective heads of foreign policy establishments. While India has no problem with Pakistan getting money from the US to fight terrorism, it has insisted that it must be ensured that Pakistan uses this money only to fight insurgents, and buy equipment relevant to that fight.
