In another major ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops fired at Indian forward posts in Mendhar and Soujian sectors in Poonch district on Saturday and Sunday.
Intelligence sources said two jawans were injured in the cross-border firing and shifted to hospitals. In the first incident on Saturday, Pakistani troops from Daruchian post resorted to unprovoked firing on posts manned by the Gorkha Regiment and Maratha Li in Mendhar, to facilitate infiltration by a group of three to four militants. Indian troops retaliated and forced the militants to flee back to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In the ensuing firing, one jawan was injured. In the second incident, Pakistani troops opened fire to facilitate another infiltration attempt in Soujian on Sunday. There was small weapon firing on Indian forward posts manned by Bihar regiment troops, who opened retaliatory fire. A sepoy was injured.
Sources also reported a major ceasefire violation in Rajouri district, where Pakistani troops reportedly fired 8-10 rockets on Sagar-Bhala Gun hilltop, Gorha, Chaja and other posts.
Over two such dozen clashes have taken place this year alone.
