Pakistan PM, president congratulates team for Twenty20 triumph

Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated the national team for winning the Twenty20 World Cup at Lord's, London.

Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated the national team for winning the Twenty20 World Cup at Lord's, London.

Pakistan defeated continental rivals Sri Lanka by eight wickets o0n Sunday night to become the Twenty20 World Champions and register their first world title since the 50-overs World Cup victory way back in 1992 under Imran Khan's captaincy.

Prime Minister Gilani, in a telephone call, congratulated skipper Younis Khan and all the members of the team for their splendid performance in the biennial event.

The prime minister also lavished praise on Shahid Afridi for his sterling all-round display in the both the semifinal and final of the tournament.

He also lauded pacer Umar Gul, who registered his name in the record books by taking five wickets for six runs in a match against New Zealand.

Gilani said the entire nation is proud of the national team which raised Pakistan's flag high in the field of cricket and wished them all success in their future endeavors.
