Officials in Sarajevo say police have arrested a former Bosnian Serb soldier suspected of having taken part in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre. The State Prosecutor's Office in Sarajevo says in a statement that Zeljko Ivankovic is a genocide suspect and was arrested Wednesday. He has been handed over to the Prosecutor's Office. Local media quoted witnesses as saying that Ivankovic was arrested in Pale, near Sarajevo.
In July 1995, Bosnian Serb forces overran the U.N. safe haven of Srebrenica and executed up to 8,000 Muslim men. The massacre was the worst in Europe since World War II.
