Officials say four policemen have been killed in an attack targeting their patrol unit in northern Iraq. Seven civilians were also injured in the attack that occurred when an explosives-laden car detonated next to a police patrol in the town of Beiji.

Police and hospital officials say seven civilians were also injured in the Tuesday morning attack that occurred when an explosives-laden car detonated next to a police patrol in the town of Beiji, 155 miles (250 kilometers) north of Baghdad.

In a separate incident also on Tuesday, police said gunmen opened fire on an oil truck traveling on a highway just outside Beiji, killing its driver.
All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
