Twitter went berserk and started posting rap lyrics for Pope Francis after a photo of him blessing in a rapper stance went viral. In the photograph, he is seen holding a microphone in one hand and gesturing with the other.

The photo was taken by AFP photographer Gianluigi Guercia during Pope’s visit to an internally displaced people camp at St Saviour parish in Bangui, the largest city of the Central African Republic.

But that didn’t stop the idea of il papa “blessing the mic” in a battle rap formation from striking Twitter gold and the hashtag #popebars started trending worldwide. The hashtag had garnered 96,000 tweets till this article was published.

Here are the funniest rap lyrics written using #popebars...

Pope Francis wrapped up his three-nation Africa tour on Monday, a historic visit to the last remaining Muslim neighbourhood in Central African Republic’s capital, a move that almost immediately opened up a part of the divided city troubled for months by retaliatory violence between Muslim and Christian militias.

The bold visit by the pope, who travelled into the most volatile part of Bangui in his open-air popemobile, underscored his message of faith over fear. He was not without heavy security, though, including armed peacekeepers in the central mosque’s minarets high above the crowds.

This isn’t the first time #popebars has inspired Twitter to break out the freestyles. People have been tweeting about the pope’s potential rap career for months.
