An earthquake with possible strength of 6.5 hit offshore northern California, about 35 km west of Ferndale in the Pacific Ocean, the US Geological Geological Survey said.

The quake hit about 0028 GMT on Sunday. The 6.5 measurement on the Richter scale would indicate a serious earthquake, but there were no reports of damage yet.
