Queen Elizabeth II is set to become a great-grandmother for the first time at the age of 84 after Buckingham Palace announced Friday that the Canadian wife of her grandson is pregnant.

Peter Phillips, son of the queen's daughter Princess Anne and 11th in line to the throne, and his wife Autumn are expecting a child in December, officials said.

"The queen and Duke of Edinburgh, as well as Autumn's family, have been informed and are delighted with the news," the palace said in a statement.

The couple married at Windsor Castle, the queen's home west of London, in 2008, and live in Hong Kong.
