The founder of Cirque du Soleil and two professional astronauts blasted off on Wednesday for the International Space Station (ISS) on a Russian rocket, an AFP correspondent reported.

The Soyuz rocket blasted off on schedule from Russia's Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 0714 GMT carrying Canadian space tourist Guy Laliberte as well as Jeffrey Williams of the United States and Russia's Maxim Surayev.
