Afghan authorities say insurgents fired two rockets that landed as close as one kilometer from the site where more than 2,000 Afghan elders are attending a national assembly in Kabul.

The Afghan ministry of Interior says the two rockets were fired from an unknown location at about 8 am on Thursday.

Kabul police criminal director Mohammad Zahir says one rocket landed near a police station, injuring one person.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai spoke Wednesday on the opening day of the assembly — called a loya jirga — where the elders are considering the terms of the future US presence in their country.
