South African police say attempted murder charges have been dropped against two people who were arrested after the shooting of a former Rwandan general.
Police spokesman Govindsamy Mariemuthoo said on Wednesday that the four remaining suspects will appear at court hearing on June 29. Lt General Kayumba Nyamwasa, who has been in exile in South Africa since earlier this year, and his wife were returning to the upscale gated community where they live in northern Johannesburg when a lone gunman fired on him on Saturday. He was shot in the stomach and is expected to recover.
Nyamwasa's wife has accused Rwanda's president in the shooting, a charge the Rwandan government denies.
Rwandan officials have accused Nyamwasa of trying to destabilise their government.
