Seven people are feared dead after a plane on a government mission went missing on Thursday in the northern Philippines, a regional police official said. The twin-engine BN Islander took off from the northern town of Tuguegarao for nearby town Maconacon on the remote east coast of the main island of Luzon but it had failed to arrive several hours later, said Chief Superintendent Roberto Damian.
The plane, belonging to a private charter company, was carrying a pilot, a co-pilot and five passengers including a police officer travelling as part of an official police mission, said Damian without elaborating.Authorities are trying to check if the plane may have reached a remote airstrip in the area but have not received any news.“We are preparing for the worst scenario,” the police official said.
Although the plane was in good working order, the weather on its flight path was cloudy and overcast, he added.
