Sikh surge at convention

As many as 26 Sikhs were part of the California delegation at the Democratic convention, a record turnout by the community for any party in the US.

“Everyone wants to meet us and talk to us,” said Amrik Singh Pannu, a retired bus operator. Sikhs were recently in the news for the massacre at a gurudwara. Obama had ordered the US flag to fly at half mast for five days and Michelle Obama had met relatives of victims. Republicans had a Sikh priest do the invocation at their conventionk. Did the killings have anything to do with the surge at the convention?

“That’s just a coincidence,” Harkirat Singh, a college student, said.
