The Dornier-228 aircraft belonging to Sita Air crashed while landing at the Lukla Airport, the gateway to Mt Everest in Solukhumbu district.
All 11 passengers and three crew members, who were on board, are safe, according to the airport sources.
The front part of the German-built aircraft, which had taken off from Kathmandu, was slightly damaged.
A team left for Lukla from Kathmandu to assess the damage and determine the cause of the accident.
Lukla, one of the popular tourist destinations in the country, is situated at an altitude of 2,860 metres (9380 ft).
In October 2004, a Yeti Airlines Twin Otter plane crashed at the airport, killing 16 people including 14 foreigners.
