Intelligence officials have said keeping Dr Shakeel Afridi, who helped the CIA hunt down al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden, in Peshawar’s central prison is no less than keeping him in sight of the Taliban.

According to an intelligence report submitted to authorities in Islamabad, the location and accessibility of the prison — flanked by the Grand Trunk Road and the congested Saddar area — makes it an easy target for the Taliban.

Afridi has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for treason.
