In his first meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif asked that drone attacks be stopped immediately. Kerry arrived Wednesday evening in Pakistan and met top members of the Pakistan leadership, including President Zardari, PTI chairman Imran Khan the army chief, General Kayani on Thursday.
During his talks with Kerry, Nawaz also emphasised Pakistan’s desire to get access to the American markets to boost economy and assistance in overcoming the energy crisis. For his part, Kerry reiterated the US government’s stance on the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project and said his country will facilitate its construction.
The meeting with the Pakistan Prime Minister and subsequent meetings held by the US Secretary of State suggests that relations between the two countries are on the mend. This may also have to with the change in leadership at the top in Pakistan. Sharif described Kerry as “a wonderful friend” after their meetings.
