Storm Agatha kills 14 in Honduras

Fourteen people were killed in tropical storm Agatha in Honduras, officials said on Monday. Eight fishermen and a soldier went missing after the storm swept through the northeastern part of the country, the Permanent Commission of Emergencies (Copeco) said.

More than 3,200 people were evacuated from the affected areas, Xinhua reported.

Communication lines were broken and hundreds of houses and bridges were destroyed in different parts of the country. The government on Sunday declared a state of emergency in the wake of the storm.

US ambassador to Honduras Hugo Llorens said his government will donate $100,000 to Tegucigalpa to help in the relief efforts. The World Food Programme will also give 8,000 metric tones of grain.
