The sexual assault case against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has not been dismissed and "the investigation is continuing," the prosecution said Wednesday after meeting his defense lawyers.

The case against Strauss-Kahn suffered a major blow last week when prosecutors cast doubt on the credibility of the maid at the luxury Manhattan hotel who accuses him of assaulting and attempting to rape her on May 14.

Wednesday's meeting came amid growing speculation that prosecutors may have to abandon the case against the former head of the International Monetary Fund, who now faces a second attempted rape case back in France.
