Struggling Pak model arrested for poisoning colleague, journo

world Updated: Mar 02, 2015 01:42 IST

Police in Pakistan have arrested a 22-year-old struggling female model for allegedly murdering a photo journalist last year and a fellow aspiring model, whose body was found in a suitcase here in January.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rana Ayaz Saleem told reporters that Uzma Rao alias Tooba - a struggling model -confessed to have poisoned her friend Abeera, 20, another aspiring model, to death. The SSP further said that Tooba killed Abeera at her house in Model Town by poisoning her after she refused to kill her ex-husband Babar Javed Butt.

Abeera's body was found in a suitcase on January 13 at the terminal of a bus company at Ferodpur Road in Lahore. Quoting Tooba, the SSP said that she also confessed to have poisoned a photo journalist, Yousuf Khokhar, by spiking his juice with cyanide at the Model Town Park, where his body was later found in November last year. "We have arrested two of Tooba's friends - Haider and Farooq - who helped her in arranging poison.

However, they were not part of the planning to kill the model and photo journalist," the SSP said. According to police, Tooba killed the journalist for showing some of her "objectionable pictures" to her husband, who subsequently divorced her. She also wanted to punish her ex-husband for the death of her daughter. "I wanted to take revenge from my ex-husband for his cruelty.

He left me when our daughter was just two-month-old who later died. He was responsible for that and I had plotted to kill him with Abeera's help. She first agreed but later refused, leaving no option for me but to kill her," Tooba was quoted as saying by the police. The SSP said bottles of cyanide, ethanol and arsenic were recovered from Tooba's house. Tooba was identified by Abeera's family through a CCTV footage of a bus stand where she left a suitcase containing Abeera's body and fled away.
