Strong opposition from his coalition partner BJP notwithstanding, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal's son Sukhbir will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister on Wednesday in a move seen as a prelude to his eventual elevation to the top post.
The Chief Minister said Sukhbir, who has succeeded his father as the head of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, will be rewarded with key portfolios.
Replying to a query on resentment in Punjab BJP against installation of Sukhbir as Deputy Chief Minister, Badal senior SAD's ties with the saffron party were "cordial".
Badal claimed all BJP MLAs will participate in tomorrow's swearing-in ceremony of Sukhbir as deputy chief minister in Amritsar.
Asked about the changes at government and party level after Sukhbir's induction as Deputy Chief Minister, he replied "wait and see."
Asked about reshuffling of his council of ministers after the induction of Sukhbir in the cabinet, the Chief Minister said though important portfolios will be given to Sukhbir, there will be no reshuffle as of now.
To a question from where Sukhbir will contest assembly election, he said it will be decided by him only as he was the president of the party.
Regarding allegation of Congress that Sukhbir was entering the council of ministers through back door as he was not a member of the state assembly, he said that according to the constitution any person can be inducted in the cabinet as he has to become a member of the House within six months.
