Williams sets a new record for the longest uninterrupted space flight by a woman, surpassing the 188-day, 4-hour mark set by Shannon Lucid in 1996.

A US astronaut of Indian heritage, Sunita Williams, early on Saturday set a new record for the longest uninterrupted space flight by a woman, US space officials said.

At 1:47 am (0547 GMT), Williams, an International Space Station engineer, surpassed the 188-day, 4-hour mark set by her compatriot Shannon Lucid in 1996, the officials said.
