Taliban abducts 10 people in Swat

Taliban militants in Pakistan's troubled Swat valley have kidnapped 10 people, including six security personnel, from different areas of the restive valley. The militants picked up four security personnel from the bazaar in Khwazakhela town on Monday, media reports said.

In a separate incident in the same town, militants abducted two Frontier Corps personnel and the driver of an ambulance in which they were travelling, reports said. The ambulance intercepted by the militants was carrying the body of a Frontier Corps personnel killed in a recent suicide attack.

Unidentified men also abducted Muhammad Siraj Khan, president of the Khwazakhela chapter of the opposition PML-Q party, and took him away to an undisclosed location, media reports said.

Militants kidnapped and briefly held two officials of Medicines Sans Frontiers in the Kalam area of Swat, The News daily reported. The kidnappers also took away their ambulance.

The kidnappings prompted security forces to establish four check points and arrest 11 suspects.
