Taliban attack police facility in eastern Afghan town

world Updated: Apr 15, 2012 16:20 IST

Multiple Taliban gunmen launched an attack on a police facility in the eastern Afghan town of Gardez as gunfire and explosions hit Afghanistan's capital on Sunday, an official said.

An unknown number of Taliban gunmen believed to be also armed with suicide vests occupied a building overseeing a police training center and opened fire with machine-guns, Rohullah Samoon the provincial spokesman told AFP.

Four people, two students from the nearby university and two civilians were wounded, he said, and a gunfight was underway.
