Notwithstanding a major army offensive against the Taliban in Pakistan's restive northwest, militants beheaded a captured police official in Swat valley and a suicide bomber carried out a brazen attack on a check post in North Waziristan tribal region killing at least two security personnel on Tuesday.

The decapitated body of a constable, abducted a week ago by militants, was found by police in a town of Swat, where for the last three months the Pakistan Army is carrying out an operation against the Taliban, officials were quoted by TV channels as saying.

Over the past two years, Taliban militants have beheaded a number of army and police personnel after abducting them.

In the latest operations against the Taliban in Swat, two militants were killed and 25 captured by the security forces.

Troops killed the two militants and apprehended another during a search operation at Malukabad in Swat. Local militant commander Liaqat was captured by troops near Shangla. Seven militants were captured along with arms and ammunition in the area around Manda Khel by troops carrying out a routine search of the troubled Darra Adam Khel region. Security forces apprehended 16 suspects at Hassan Khel near Lakki, the military said.
