The Taliban claimed responsibility for taking a number of UN workers hostage in the Afghan capital on Wednesday.

"Several Taliban suiciders (took) hostage several UN workers in Kabul," the Islamist movement said in an English-language text message sent to Reuters.

An Afghan police source said the militants were holding four foreign nationals hostage in a guest house in Kabul. "They may have killed some of them," the police source told Reuters.
