A Pakistani Taliban commander confirmed that on Thursday the hardline group unconditionally released all remaining students and staff from an army-run boarding school in Pakistan.

"We have released them in the interest of peace in the region. We accepted the request of the tribal jirga," Hakimullah Mehsud told AFP by telephone.

Mehsud is a commander and spokesman for Tehreek-e-Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud, who is Pakistan's most wanted militant with a five million dollar price on his head posted by the United States.
