Seven bullet-riddled bodies of men killed by Taliban for allegedly spying for the US were found in the lawless north Waziristan on Sunday, even as nine militants and a soldier were killed in violence in northwest Pakistan.

Bodies of five of the seven men killed were found on Sunday morning in Kum Sarobi, 35 kms south of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal agency, where army conducted an operation against militants holed up in an Afghan settlement two days ago, local media reported.

The sixth body was found in Kutab Khel area, 10 km southeast of Miranshah, while another body was found in Khaisore village in Mirali sub-division.

Notes written in Pashto placed near the bodies said the men were working for the US and spying on 'Mujahideen'. The notes claimed the men had confessed to their "crime" and a video of their confession would be released soon. The notes also warned that other "US spies" would meet the same fate.

The Taliban have killed dozens of people in Pakistan's tribal belt on charges of spying for US forces based in neighbouring Afghanistan. There have been reports that tribesmen have been paid off by US forces to plant electronic chips that help drones to home in on targets.

Meanwhile, a security personnel was killed and two others injured when their convoy was targeted with a roadside bomb in Nullah Malikdin Khel area of Khyber tribal region, Frontier Corps officials said. The security personnel were conducting a search operation when they were attacked.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Several militant groups are active in Khyber Agency, including the Lashkar-e-Islam and the Taliban.

Seven militants, including Taliban commander Gul Hakim, were also killed in two separate gunbattles in the Bara area of Khyber Agency, officials said.

Security forces killed two suspected militants during an operation in Tank region in northwest Pakistan, the military said.

In separate incidents, three soldiers were injured when militants attacked security forces in Shakai sector of Waziristan tribal region.

Troops also repulsed three militant attacks in Jandola and Razmak sectors of Waziristan though there were no reports of casualties.

Security forces apprehended seven suspects and seized arms and ammunition during search operations in Shakai sector.

They also cleared several militant-held compounds in Razmak sector. Three militants also surrendered to security forces in the restive Swat valley.
