At least three people were killed and 10 injured today when a train derailed in a mountainous area of east China after being hit by landslides, state media reported.
The train, which was heading from Shanghai for the tourist city of Guilin in southern China, derailed at around 2:10 am (local time) in Dongxiang county of Fuzhou city in Jiangxi province, Xinhua said, citing a railways ministry statement.
The locomotive and nine of the train's 17 carriages derailed and some were overturned, Xinhua said, quoting its reporters at the scene.
Soldiers were rescuing people trapped inside the train, it said. Four seriously injured passengers were rushed to hospital.
The news agency said it was not yet known how many passengers were on board.
Much of Jiangxi has been hit by heavy rains in the last few days, it said.
