A top LTTE leader was reportedly killed or wounded in Sri Lankan air force raids in Mullaitivu late on Friday.
Soosai, leader of Sea Tigers, or LTTE’s naval wing, was at a location which was bombed by fighter jets, the military said on Saturday. At least 11 Sea Tiger cadres were also killed in the attack. They, however, could not confirm whether Soosai was killed.
This is for the first time in the current phase of war a top LTTE leader has been reported dead or wounded. The last LTTE leader to be killed was S.P. Tamilselvan, LTTE’s political head, in November 2007.
Soosai is considered to be among the top five in the current LTTE hierarchy.
Soosai’s hideout was located through ground intelligence.
