An office tower near New York's World Trade Center was briefly evacuated Thursday after staff discovered what they suspected might be a grenade, but which turned out to be just a toy.
The all clear was sounded when police specialists determined the "suspicious package" delivered at Two World Financial Center contained nothing more than a plastic toy.
"It was a novelty grenade," a spokeswoman for the New York Police Department said. "There's an all-clear."
Two World Financial Center is close to the new World Trade Center, rebuilt following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on New York.
Similar scares are frequent in Manhattan, which has been under especially tight security since 2001.
