An overturned truck rigged with explosives blew up on a crowded road south of the Afghan capital on Thursday, killing civilians including school children, officials said.

The truck, loaded with firewood and apparently overturned deliberately overnight about 30 kilometres (19 miles) south of the capital, blew up as authorities were trying to remove it, a district governor said.

“We estimate between 10 to 15 people, mostly civilians, have been killed,” Abdul Hameed Hamid said, adding the toll could not yet be established.
