A twin suicide bomb attack targeted a Nato base in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, killing eight civilians and four Afghan policemen, local officials said.

The Taliban, which took responsibility for the early morning attack, said it had dispatched two bombers, one on foot and one in an explosives-laden truck.

The Nato base was targeted last year on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

In a related incident, two US soldiers were killed in an attack by anti-government militants in Afghanistan Saturday, the US Forces said in a statement.

"Two US Forces-Afghanistan service members died following an insurgent attack in Ghazni province," the statement said, reported Xinhua.
