Two policemen and five Taliban guerrillas were killed in a clash in Kunar province of eastern Afghanistan on Sunday.

The encounter began after some militants attacked a police checkpoint in Chapa Dara district at 3 am (2230 GMT on Saturday), said Shah Hussein Mangal, spokesman of the provincial government.

Three policemen were also injured in the encounter, he added.

A roadside bombing killed four policemen in the district on Friday.

The rising Taliban violence has left over 3,800 people dead in Afghanistan this year.
