An Indian-American has been named the first chief technology officer of the US. President Barack Obama announced the appointment of Aneesh Chopra, currently secretary of technology in Virginia Governor Tim Kaine's cabinet, in his weekly radio address on Saturday.

An Indian-American has been named the first chief technology officer of the US. President Barack Obama announced the appointment of Aneesh Chopra, currently secretary of technology in Virginia Governor Tim Kaine's cabinet, in his weekly radio address on Saturday.

The White House also announced that Obama is nominating another Indian-American, Rajiv Shah, as undersecretary for research, education and economics and chief scientist in the Agriculture Department. Shah, 36, is director of agricultural development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
