Two soldiers and nine militants were killed in fresh fighting in Pakistan's restive northwest and the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, the military said today.
Two soldiers were killed when militants fired more than 30 rockets at a security forces check post at Razmak in North Waziristan tribal region, the military said in a statement.
Nine militants were killed and five were injured in an exchange of fire between security forces and the Taliban at Darra Adam Khel in the North West Frontier Province. Four caves used by the militants as hideouts were destroyed during the operation.
Troops also continued their search and clearance operations in the Swat valley and other parts of the Malakand division in the NWFP. Eight suspects were arrested during search operations near Madyan, Khwazakhela and Mingora, the main city in Swat district.
Seven suspected militants surrendered to security forces at four places across Swat, the military said.
