Uk migration cuts may hit students

British Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledge not to harm business interests while trying to halve non-European migration leaves only migrant students and families as the areas where cuts can be enforced, analysts say.

British Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledge not to harm business interests while trying to halve non-European migration leaves only migrant students and families as the areas where cuts can be enforced, analysts say.

But with potential human rights challenges over moves to stop migrants from bringing their families, overseas students who bring in £2.7-4 billion to the UK economy could be the only realistic target for cuts.

The are three areas where the government can make cuts in order halve the number of migrants from the current 196,000 skilled migrants, those joining families, and students.

Last week, the independent Migration Advisory Committee said 80% of the cuts should come from students and families.
