The UN Postal Administration (UNPA) will issue six commemorative stamps to coincide with the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing on Friday.
"The Olympic Games have always brought people together in peace to respect universal moral principles," the UN Postal Administration said in a statement.
World-renowned South American artist Romero Britto has been commissioned by the UNPA to create half-dozen original pieces of art reflecting the theme Sport for Peace.
Britto uses vibrant colours and bold patterns to convey a message of hope, and his work is exhibited in over 100 galleries worldwide.
This is Britto's second set of stamp designs for the United Nations.
In 1999, he designed six memorial stamps on the theme Education Keystone to the 21st Century.
