Three months after the fall of LTTE in a bloody conflict with the Sri Lankan army, a video footage has surfaced which shows a Sri Lankan soldier executing a naked man, according to British media reports.
The graphic mobile phone footage shows a naked man sitting bound and blindfolded. A soldier kicks the man before shooting him in the back of the head. The bodies of eight other executed men are shown later in the footage.
Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka, which obtained the material, said it was filmed in January, although there's no way of confirming the authenticity of the video. Sri Lankan government sources have denied that Sri Lankan army carried out any atrocities against Sri Lankan Tamil community. They added that they were engaged in a military offensive only against the LTTE. Warning that doctored footgae have cropped up time and again, the government sources asked for the authenticity of the footage to be verified.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels have been fighting for a separate homeland for the Tamil minority since 1983. Years of internal conflict within Sri Lanka killed between 80,000 and 100,000 people.
