Sri Lanka set South Africa a target of 134 to win in the first quarterfinal of the World Cup at the SCG on Wednesday.

The 2011 runners-up made painfully slow progress against the Proteas pacers but were undone by spinners Imran Tahir and JP Duminy, who bagged a staggered hat-trick.

Lanka's batsman-in-form Kumar Sangakkara fought a slow and lonely battle before falling for 45 off 96 balls.

Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bat. The islanders handed a debut to Tharindu Kaushal, whom Mathews described as a mystery spinner, a duplicate Murali.

He said his team is representing a lot of people back home and every time he walks out in these colours, his heart beats fast as he wants to perform for the country and the people supporting them.
