At SXSW Sunday, yesterday, Kevin Systrom (co-founder of popular photo-filtering and sharing app - Instagram) announced that Instagram is coming to Android very soon.
According to the official announcement, the Android version is better than the iOS app, works fast and great on larger screens (read Tablets) and allows to share the instagram pictures on many networks including Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
The product, which was named as iOS's app of last year, already has 27 million downloads o the App Store and has hooked over 25 million users. It has further spewed a huge range of businesses that help you sell, share and do fun things with your Instagram pictures. There are 15 new pictures being shared through instagram, every second and over 150 million photos have already been shared.
A popular app like Instagram and the range of awesome cameras coming to Android as we saw this MWC), is a clear indication of Android's coming of age as a consumer
device. And can only push content generation and consumption forward on the platform.
How you ask? Instagram for Android is the first of its kind in an awesome picture sharing app on the platform, when compared to the other apps present on the marketplace and the os-level sharing integration. Plus, it adds a greater confidence to the Android marketplace as a consumer-friendly platform. Consider this: Flickr took 2 years to cross 100 million photos uploaded landmark. Instagram did that in 8 months since release.
