Despite revenue growth, state’s budget may not see substantial hike for next fiscal

Despite the country’s economy showing signs of recovery with revenue generation improving in the current year, giving much of a breather to states in terms of higher central devolutions amid Covid pandemic, Bihar’s next year’s budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 may not see a substantial hike in terms of total budget size, officials said.

Bihar preps for polls to 24 vacant MLC posts

At present, the strength in the Bihar Legislative Council is 51 as against the total strength of 75 in the Upper House. The 24 MLC seats, which fell vacant in June this year, have not been filled due to the delay in conducting the panchayat polls.
The MLC polls are poised to be a keen contest between the ruling NDA and opposition RJD with both sides already gearing up to win more seats by rallying support from the panchayat members. The election for the 24 MLC seats could be held in February next year. (PTI PHOTO)

Stubble burning: Bihar plans to ‘name and shame’ violators

PATNA In a bid to discourage the practice of stubble burning during the upcoming harvesting season for kharif crops, the Bihar government has decided to “name and shame” violators and has made it mandatory for farmers hiring combine harvestor machines to furnish an affidavit that they would not burn crop residue in their fields, officials familiar with the matter said
In Bihar, stubble burning in districts of Kaimur, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Buxar, Nawada and parts of north Bihar has become common over the last few years owing to large-scale use of combine harvestors, the machines that harvest grains in a fast manner, leaving high density of crop residue. (PTI)
