Illegal hoardings dot Ludhiana, but not a penny paid to civic body

Even as 100s of illegal political religious hoardings continue to flood the city’s landscape, information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that there are only 21 spots where hoardings and that too of religious nature can be installed legally. It has also been revealed under the information that the MC has not granted any permission to allow political hoardings.

Quality control tests mandatory for development projects in Ludhiana

To rein in on private contractors and keep a check on the quality of material used by them for projects under the Punjab Urban Development Mission, technical adviser to the chief minister has issued an order to conduct quality control tests of the material to be used in the development projects in city.

Bhatt has ordered that the demonstration patch for all works should be laid by the contractor in the presence of a third-party consultant and the officer nominated by the office of technical adviser.(HT File)

Ludhiana plastic ban: Enforcement teams formed for implementation

To ensure the implementation of ban on polythene carry bags and thermocol items (excluding packing material) from April 1, the municipal corporation (MC) has constituted enforcement teams to conduct special drives in all four zones of the city.

Punjab traffic adviser Navdeep Asija, during his recent visit to the city, has found the construction of the bus queue shelters faulty. Talking to HT on Thursday, Asija said, “In accordance with the Ludhiana municipal corporation’s outdoor advertisement bylaws 2014, the bus shelters, due to their inappropriate size and locations, violate majority of the road safety criteria given in the Clause 4.”
