SGPC land dispute in Mansa village: Wheat crop on 93 acres harvested under police security

As the Punjab and Haryana court ordered the district administration to deposit the crop harvest on 93 acres of land with the registrar of the court, last month, the harvesting on the disputed land was done under heavy police security on Monday afternoon in Kotdharmu village.

The dispute between the SGPC and local villagers is over the ownership of 98 acres of land which also includes the historic gurdwara of Soolisar Sahib in Kotdharmu village.(HT File)

School ‘under RSS’ skips holiday on Ambedkar birth anniversary, faces action in Punjab’s Mansa

After receiving a complaint, officials of the Mansa district education department visited a school, Sarvahitkari Vidya Mandir, in Dulowal village and found it to be open on Ambedkar Jayanti on Friday. This, among other violations, is part of a report sent to higher officials for action against the school, which, according to its principal, “comes under the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh)”.

Mansa village panchayat passes resolution to boycott liquor vends

In a rare instance, the Dariyapur Kalan village panchayat has adopted a resolution to boycott liquor and tobacco vends. Sarpanch of the village Jaswinder Singh of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) said that he was inspired by chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who has vowed to wipe out drugs from the state within four weeks.

Loose electricity wires leading to fire incidents in fields in Mansa

No counselling for suicide victim families in Mansa

While families of the farmers, who committed suicide, have been struggling to get compensation, the promise of free counselling session made by the state government has also not been fulfilled in Mansa. The state government, in a notification issued in 2015, had suggested officials of revenue and agriculture departments to hold a counselling session with the family of the deceased farmer for at least one year to bring the family out of stress.
