The trio and an associate, identified as Robin, were intercepted by a police team for checking around 7pm near Gautam Budh Nagar University on Tuesday, following which the suspects allegedly opened fire and fled.

Police said the accused had murdered a 30-year-old woman, identified as Sushma Devi, on the night of October 14 at her rented accommodation. He then fled to his home town in Aligarh.
