The 9th Auto Expo, which saw Tatas launching the world's cheapest car 'Nano', on Thursday ended after generating a record business of about Rs 20,000 crore.
"Preliminary estimates indicated that auto-carnival attracted about 1.8 million visitors and generated business worth about Rs 20,000 crore (about 5,000 million dollars) through 2,000 exhibitors," CII Deputy Director General Gurpal Singh told reporter reporters here. CII was the co-organiser of the event.
The last Auto Expo in 2006 had generated a business worth Rs 540 crore.
The amount of business generated during the fair has been estimated surveying the participants, Singh said. "Of the 1,200 exhibitors surveyed, around 50 per cent of them admitted that they have generated business during the expo."
Over 27,000 business queries were generated during the expo, of which 70 per cent was from domestic players, 22 per cent from overseas and the rest 8 per cent was general, he added.
The mega event registered over 65 vehicle manufacturers and more than 1,900 component makers from all over the world.
On the total number of launches, Singh said: "We lost count after 31 launches."
Singh said over 100 MoU's were signed during the event, of which 73 per cent was domestic in nature and 27 per cent overseas.
