Concepts, heavy duty vehicles and e-buses rock day 2 of Delhi Auto Expo

The 13th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo kicked off at the India Expo Mart (IEM) in Greater Noida on Wednesday.

The 13th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo kicked off at the India Expo Mart (IEM) in Greater Noida on Wednesday. While the first day saw some really fascinating cars and two-wheelers unveiled, day 2 was more about concepts from Indian carmakers Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki (MSI) and heavy commercial vehicles.

Here’s what the day was all about:

Big launches, like really big

After being on a roll with their Zica, Hexa and Xenon launches, Tatas took a day off from passenger segment and flexed their muscles with the heavy-duty trucks Ultra and Signa.

The day was dotted with launches of buses and trucks, both productions and concepts. Scania and JBM Auto plan to revolutionise mass transportation through their 100% electric buses.

Mahindra’s smart range of trucks Blazo deserves a mention for the technology and guarantees offered. They’ve also roped in Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn for endorsing the smart trucking brand which claims to have the highest mileage in the segment.

Fiat line-up gets hotter

Italian automaker Fiat unveiled a upgrade of the sedan Linea 125S, and two new variants of the Punto called Punto Pure and Urban Cross.

Not just cars, Bollywood stars sell mini pickups and smart trucks too

Akin to day 1, the second day also saw a number of Bollywood stars grace the event. While Yamaha India’s brand ambassador John Abraham launched the MT-09 sports bike, Manoj Bajpayee paid a visit to the Mahindra pavilion to celebrate the mini truck Mahindra Jeeto winning the Small Commercial Vehicle of the year award for 2015.

Volkswagen Polo GTI has arrived

The day also proved a blessing for millions of Indians who were dying to hit the roads with the Polo GTI. Volkswagen finally launched the hot hatch and it is up for sale right away.

“You give me the bookings, I’ll give you the car,” said Michael Mayer, brand head of VW India while announcing the arrival of the car.

Maruti’s concepts Ignis and Baleno

Maruti Suzuki unveiled their concept car Baleno, as well as their Ignis mini-SUV. The new gen platform and a 1.0 litre boosterjet engine will go under the hood of both these cars. The cars will go to production before the festive season later this year. And with this, there’s formally a segment now of mini-SUVs with KUV100, Kwid and now Ignis.

Renault Duster facelift launched

Why Duster deserves a special mention is the way Renault changed the compact SUV game with this one. The car was also instrumental in Renault making inroads in Indian car market. The new Duster The New Duster range includes 6 speed manual transmission (AMT) and also boasts of superior engineering, styling, safety and comfort features, the company said.

Now ride Triumph bikes in India

British biking company Triumph Motorcycles launched the Bonneville T120 and the entry-level Bonneville Street Twin on Thursday. While the Street Twin is powered by an all-new high torque 900cc engine, the T120 gets the boost from an all-new 1,200cc mill. And it starts at Rs 6.9 lakh.
