The iconic American car, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is about to go on sale in Europe for the first time in its history. Before bringing the Mustang to dealerships across the continent in 2015, Ford is presenting 500 cars for pre-order during the UEFA Champions League finals, which are taking place in Lisbon, Portugal on May 24, 2014.
European car enthusiasts will be able to preorder 500 Mustangs, including both hardtop and convertible models, during a short window at the end of this month, although the first deliveries will not take place until 2015. Ford is opening its website to preorders during the final game of the UEFA Champions League, a face-off between the two Madrid-based soccer clubs Real and Atlético. The American car maker has been an official partner of the soccer competition since 1992.
When ordering one of the first 500 Mustangs on the continent, customers will choose between the fastback in Race Red or the convertible in Magnetic Silver, powered by either the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost (309hp) or the 5.0-liter V8 (426hp). The new models will be equipped with the Ford SYNC 2 connectivity system, a GPS navigation system, a cockpit in black leather with chrome paneling, heated and ventilated seats, automatic parking assist and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Pricing information will be announced at a later date. Pre-orders can be made exclusively online at Ford.com.
The 6th-generation Mustang
The latest Mustang has revised front and rear suspension and new structural elements that reduce its weight and improve handling. The convertible version comes standard with a multi-layered top designed to reduce noise within the cabin without impacting the vehicle's overall style.
Several driving modes will be available, allowing drivers which adjust the settings of steering assistance, engine response, transmission and electronic stability control according to the road conditions.
