Isuzu MU-X launched at Rs 23.99 lakh: All you need to know about the Fortuner-rival

The Isuzu MU-X is a family SUV that replaces the MU-7 in Isuzu’s line-up, taking on the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

Isuzu Motors, makers of “adventure utility vehicle” V-Cross, launched a seven-seat big sport utility vehicle -- Isuzu MU-X in India on Thursday at Rs 23.99 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). The MU-X will replace the MU-7 in Isuzu’s India lineup and will take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

The new MU-X was launched in two variants - 4 x 2 variant at Rs 23,99,000 and 4 x 4 variant at Rs 25,99,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Isuzu Motors India Private Limited (IMIPL), a subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors Limited sells the V-Cross, and pickup trucks D-Max and S-Cab.

The MU-X will get V-Cross-like face with two big chrome slats on the grille holding the emblem. Some may like it, but for others, the faces of Fortuner and Endeavour might still have an edge over the MU-X’s styling.

On the inside, the MU-X gets a 7-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control and other state of the art features common nowadays in SUVs of this segment. The cabin is blacked out with piano-finish dashes around the aircons and gear stick.

Under the bonnet, there’s a 3.0-litre diesel engine that makes 177 PS of top power @ 3600 rpm and 380 Nm top torque @ 1800-2800 rpm: 14PS more power and 20Nm more torque than the same diesel mill of the outgoing MU-7.

The big diesel engine is connected to asequential shift automatic gearbox, in 4 x 4 as well as 4 x 2 configuration. The beast sits on 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Being an SUV, the MU-X comes loaded with safety features: dual front airbags and front seat belts equipped with pre-tensioners and load limiters, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, hill start assist, electronic stability control and traction control systems.

To bring down the costs, Isuzu will localise assembly of the MU-X at its Sri City factory in Andhra Pradesh, which was inaugurated in April 2016. Last year, the company sold 1,484 units of its “adventure utility vehicle” V-Cross and 123 units of the MU-7 MPV.
